We promise to provide you with interventions that we know have worked for others in similar situations. Consultation is always available for free through email.

This site is not affiliated with the National Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports- This is Dr. Laura Riffel's personal website dedicated to educators and parents.

The materials on this website are based in over 30 years of working in classrooms, running statewide programs, and assisting others with children who have behaviors that impede their learning or that of others. Over 30 years of inservice presentations, teachers lounge conversations, grade level meetings and attending seminars have accumulated in my brain; unfortunately, I do not remember the source for many of these great ideas. That is why everything on this website is completely free. I'm trying to pay it forward for all the people who helped me to become a better educator. My thanks go out to all the people who were my "teachers".

The JAY Factor: Everything I Needed To Know About Life, I Learned From My Friend with Autism

I wrote this book about our friend Jay Turnbull who lived with our family for almost a decade. We learned so much from Jay and his zest for building a quality life.

The Media and Disabilities

This is a sample book list I began back in 2000. I'm compiling books that depict people with disabilities in a positive light to use for discussions with children. If you have any other suggestions please send them to me for the list. I think media specialists would really like this list.

Books from Amazon for Purchase

I do not have a deal with these authors- these are just some books I've read lately that I really like.

Building Positive Behavior Support Systems in Schools: Functional Behavioral Assessment by Crone & Horner The Gift Of ADHD: How To Transform Your Child's Problems Into Strengths by Lara Honos-Webb
I use this book in my Applied Behavior Analysis for Classroom Teachers Course. It's one of my favorite books. We tell educators and parents that the most important discussion at a behavior support team planning session should be to discuss the student's strengths. I love this book because it focuses on the strengths of ADHD. Coincidentally, I believe many teachers have ADHD because it is a profession that allows them to do two things at once. Which is a strength of ADHD.
